{"id":361,"date":"2010-08-04T06:46:43","date_gmt":"2010-08-04T11:46:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.martysparadox.com\/index.php"},"modified":"2014-03-24T01:29:19","modified_gmt":"2014-03-24T08:29:19","slug":"calico","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.martysparadox.com\/index.php\/writing\/writing-2003\/calico","title":{"rendered":"Calico"},"content":{"rendered":"<h5><em>By Martin Falatic<br \/>\nWritten 2003-11-11<br \/>\nRevised 2003-11-11<\/em><\/h5>\n<div class=\"hr\">\n<hr \/>\n<\/div>\n<p>How many doors I have closed, only to see others open?<br \/>\nLiving a calico life, a patchwork of experience and sensation&#8230;<br \/>\nAnd yet, I wonder: Is it worth it?<br \/>\nTo have sampled so much yet savored so little?<br \/>\nDefaulting on dreams for the sake of realism?<\/p>\n<p>Surely there is some crime in this,<br \/>\nSome payment yet to come due.<br \/>\nYet perhaps it is in our nature to doubt:<br \/>\nA Puritan nation, we see in absolutes.<br \/>\nPerhaps we&#8217;ve paid with our very birthright.<\/p>\n<p>The heart rises as selfish hope falls away,<br \/>\nA sublimation of the ego to save the soul,<br \/>\nUntil finally we know what it is to be free.<br \/>\n&#8220;Who will care in a hundred years?&#8221;, they say.<br \/>\nA call to apathy&#8230; or a call to action?<\/p>\n<p>And so we act, closing some doors and opening others,<br \/>\nLiving and hoping and loving and despairing&#8230;<br \/>\nTracing a weaving path through life.<br \/>\nDrinking deeply the wine of realism,<br \/>\nTo forget the dreams that haunt us.<\/p>\n<div class=\"hr\">\n<hr \/>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Martin Falatic Written 2003-11-11 Revised 2003-11-11 How many doors I have closed, only to see others open?
