Time (I)

There are three modes of time:
          Past, Present, and Future.

The Past slips away from us,
          Inhospitable in its emptiness,
                    Milestones and headstones forever mute.
          Unchangeable, unforgettable.

The Future is infinite, full of twists and turns,
The sum of our dreams, hopes and fears.

The Present is the bridge between the two,
          Infinitesimally small in extent,
Yet the most powerful of the Three.
Linking the knowledge gleaned from the Past
With the vision and hopes of the Future.
